J.R. Satterfield Jr. was born and raised in central Oklahoma, where he gained a life-long appreciation of the Great Plains and wildlife from his maternal grandfather. He holds a Ph.D. in fishery biology and has published in several scientific journals. While working in northeastern Montana, he was taken with the area's austere beauty and little-known history. Soon You Will Cry: A Novel of Sitting Bull's Last Battle is his ode to the neglected region. He is a natural resources professional and lives in Kalispell with his wife Gloria and two children.
